Laser therapy is a modality that effectively treats a wide variety of conditions in companion animals, including pre-surgical, post-surgical, acute, and chronic disease states. Laser therapy is also known as photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy. It occurs when a dose of light energy reaches target tissue and results in decreased inflammation, decreased pain, and accelerated healing.
Some of the benefits of laser therapy include:
- Decrease inflammation
- Decreased pain
- Accelerated tissue repair and cell growth
- Increased blood supply to treated areas
Laser therapy can effectively reduce pain and inflammation associated with a variety of acute and chronic conditions, including chronic arthritis, surgical incisions, tendon and ligament injuries, and traumatic injuries.
Laser therapy is well tolerated with minimal to no side effects, no drug interactions to worry about and can be used safely in older pets with multiple health conditions.
If you think your pet would benefit from laser therapy, please discuss with your pet’s healthcare team.
